The Rabbinical College of Australia and New Zealand (Yeshivah Gedolah – Melbourne) hosted a communal Kinus Torah on Sunday the tenth of Sivan (June 08, 2014). The Kinus was convened in conjunction with Shavuos, as per the Rebbe’s directive that a Kinus be held on, or immediately after, each Yom Tov.

The Kinus was coordinated by Shliach Mendel Hertz and chaired by Shliach Motti Rubin. The program began with an in-depth analysis of a Sicha regarding the weekday status of the days following Shavuos, and how they capture the essence of what Shavuos is really all about, delivered by Shliach Eli Yaakov Cohen.

Rabbi Mottel Krasnjanski (Ohr Chadash – Caulfield Shul) delivered an intricate Halachic discourse on the story of the mekoshesh eitzim – the individual who, during the Jewish people’s sojourn through the desert, desecrated Shabbos by gathering wood.

Rabbi Binyomin Cohen (Rosh Yeshivah) discussed the dual obligations that a teacher has, both to Hashem, as well as to his employers.

Rabbi Zvi Telsner (Yeshivah Centre) focused on the second day of Yom-Tov.

Rabbi Yaakov Barber (South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation) delivered a Shiur on the relationship between an Av Melacha and its Toldos.

Rabbi Shea Hecht enthralled the audience with an analysis of the Rogachover’s treatment of the Yemei Hatashlumin, in his inimitable and engaging method.

The Rabbonim were followed by students Menachem Sufrin (Mesivtah), Yaakov Schachna (Yeshivah College VCE) and Mendel Groner (Yeshivah-Gedolah), who clearly and succinctly elaborated on various ideas relating to the Yom-Tov of Shavuos or Masechta Shabbos.

The event featured a large and diverse crowd, who thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of subjects addressed at this year’s Kinus.
